Itinerary
DAY 1 - WITNESS THE DREAMING
LANDSCAPE OF THE DOURO AND SHOW WITH THE AUTHENTIC FLAVORS OF THE REGION
Welcome. Marma invites you for a memorable boat trip
on the Douro River, to introduce you to this unique region, full of charm.
Our journey begins with the discovery of a less talked
about but equally beautiful Douro, the so-called “Douro Verde”, linked to the
demarcated region of vinho verde, more exposed to the influence of the Atlantic
Ocean, and with a landscape with dense vegetation and a humid climate.
After a train journey from Porto to Mosteiro, board
the pier at Porto Antigo and get ready to discover the best that this region
has to offer.
Once inside the boat, we can see the mouth of the
Bestança river flowing into the Douro. With a well-structured vegetation and
clear waters, this is a river with an exemplary environmental quality. The
landscape that surrounds him seduces us and leads us to an imaginary fable, and
is worthy of your visit before we stop for lunch.
Approaching the heart of the Alto Douro Wine Region,
we arrive at Quinta S. Bernardo. It is here that, after a guided tour of the
property, lunch is served, exalting local and seasonal products, deeply rooted
in the traditions of the region, accompanied by a tasting of premium quality
wines.
After the experience, we proceeded to Casa de Tormes,
Eça de Queiroz House-Museum and headquarters of the Foundation where once lived
one of the greatest novelists of all Portuguese literature, the first and main
Portuguese realistic writer.
We then proceed to the border between the granitic
zone of the Vinho Verde Region and the shale region of Port Wines. This is
where we find Quinta da Covela, dating from the 16th century, and formed by the
ruins of the Renaissance manor, the mills and the chapel. Witness the
multi-century presence of green wine production and its historical importance,
which in more recent times, belonged to Manoel de Oliveira, one of the most
important European filmmakers today.
After a walk on this magnificent property and a wine
tasting, there is a picturesque picnic on the bank of the stream, in harmonious
communion with nature.
After our journey, you will be taken to the hotel or
to a location to be determined in Porto.
End
of the day.
