From February 18 to 25, the city of Porto will be the epicenter of a week dedicated to wine tourism, wine and gastronomy during the second edition of Wine & Travel Week (WTW). This special event coincides with the twentieth anniversary of Essência do Vinho - Porto, transforming the city into a tempting stage for lovers of culture, wine and cuisine.

 

Wine Tourism in the spotlight at WTW

Wine & Travel Week, which focuses on wine tourism, brings together professionals from all over the world for a unique experience. In this edition, more than 100 buyers and journalists specializing in wine tourism will be present, establishing direct contact with a network of more than 100 operators, tourism regions and organizations. The Great Wine Capitals (GWC), representing wine capitals from around the world, will also be present, with countries such as South Africa, Spain, France, India, England, Israel, Japan, Nigeria and Portugal.

The WTW program includes a reception at the World of Wine on February 18th and professional B2B meetings at the Soares dos Reis National Museum on the 19th and 20th. The event will provide an artistic immersion through cultural expressions. On February 19, the GWC's "Best of Wine Tourism" gala, which celebrates excellence in wine tourism, will be held at Casa da Música. The event will include recognition of the Portuguese winners in the different categories. Lunches by renowned chefs such as Renato Cunha and Rui Paula will be featured on the 19th and 20th respectively.

For the first time, WTW will have a guest region, Castilla y León (Spain), which will premiere the show "Merina: Spanish Gold. Oteiza" at the Coliseu do Porto on February 20th. This unique production brings together fashion, dance, music and the performing arts, highlighting Merina sheep's wool. The show, a sensory experience, seeks to associate Castilla y León with an activity that highlights excellence. On the night of the show's world premiere, Junta Castilla y León and the Essencia Company are hosting a dinner and party (with a performance by the Spanish band Siloé) reserved for WTW participants and guests, at the Monastery of São Bento da Vitoria.

 

Project "Gosto do Porto" ( I Like Porto)

To celebrate Portugal and and its wines, producers and winemakers, Porto and its original gastronomy, restaurateurs, chefs and sommeliers, WTW is launching the " Gosto do Porto" project.

"In all, 50 restaurants, stores and bars offering good food, an eclectic wine list and authentic northern hospitality. From the most traditional tables to Michelin-starred restaurants, the idea is to promote the region's products, Porto's restaurants and wine bars, taking advantage of the fact that Porto is, during these days, a kind of European capital of wine tourism, wine and gastronomy," explains Nuno Guedes Vaz Pires, director of Essência Company, which organizes WTW.

From February 21 to 23, international participants will have the opportunity to explore different portuguese tourism regions. "Gosto do Porto" project has the support of Porto City Council.

 

Celebrating 20 years of Essência do Vinho - Porto

The 20th edition of Essência do Vinho - Porto, scheduled for February 22 to 25 at the Palácio da Bolsa, promises memorable moments. Highlights include the TOP 10 Portuguese Wines, The Room experience with exclusive wines from 20 great wine families, commented tastings, pairings and masterclasses.

"It seems like yesterday, but it all started in 2004. The event that revolutionized the way Portuguese wines are presented and communicated to the public is celebrating its 20th anniversary and is finalizing one of the best programs ever, which will be detailed over the next few days and will present a memorable set of moments," says Nuno Guedes Vaz Pires.

 

Wine & Travel Week, including Essência do Vinho - Porto and the Gosto do Porto project, is organized by Essência Company.
