The Michelin 2026 Brightness: Porto and Douro

The gastronomic scene in northern Portugal continues to set the standard, and the 2026 edition of the Michelin Guide confirmed what we already knew: the districts of Porto and Douro region are must-visit destinations for lovers of haute cuisine.

The Porto district remains one of the great driving forces behind Portuguese cuisine. With a vibrant mix of tradition and innovation, 10 establishments have renewed their prestige and 4 new ones have entered the Michelin ranks:

IN THE DOURO

The Schistó restaurant in the Douro has earned a Michelin star, becoming one of the new benchmarks for Portuguese haute cuisine. Chef Vítor Matos, one of Portugal's most award-winning chefs, with the support of chef Vítor Gomes.

Located in the Torel Quinta da Vacaria hotel in Peso da Régua, the restaurant offers cuisine inspired by the traditions and products of the Douro region. The space is small and intimate (around 14 seats) and focuses on an immersive gastronomic experience, with an open kitchen and direct interaction with the chefs, highlighting the terroir and flavours of the region.
