Quinta dos Frades launches a new Rosé: Vinha dos Deuses

1 August 2024

Quinta dos Frades has just launched a new wine, Vinha dos Deuses Rosé 2023, the first rosé in the Douro producer's range signed by winemaker Diogo Lopes. This reference stands out for its elegance and freshness and is the expression of a 40-year-old parcel of vines of the Touriga Nacional variety.

The 2023 harvest, the first to be coordinated by Diogo Lopes (who joined Anselmo Mendes in the oenology department that year), provided grapes that, after a light pressing, evolved into a wine with a subtle colour and vibrant character, thanks to its aromas, freshness and acidity.

"The market increasingly appraises rosé wine as a serious proposal, with freshness, but also with identity and character. This Vinha dos Deuses Rosé is precisely our first proposal in this direction," says oenologist Diogo Lopes.

Quinta dos Frades covers around 200 hectares and is one of the oldest properties in the Douro. In the 13th century it was donated to monks of the Cistercian Order, which was then widely established in the Douro, forming part of the Monastery of Santa Maria de Salzedas and has always been linked to vineyards and wine.

After the extinction of the religious orders, Quinta dos Frades was bought in 1841 by the 1st Baron of Folgosa. In 1941 it was acquired by the Portuguese industrialist Delfim Ferreira and has remained in the family to this day. The winemaking at Quinta dos Frades is the responsibility of winemakers Anselmo Mendes and Diogo Lopes.
