Sernancelhe organizes the 32nd Edition of the Chestnut Festival

10 October 2024

The Sernancelhe Chestnut Festival is in its 32nd edition this year. It is the city's longest running event and an authentic cultural event that began in 1992. Thousands of people visit the fair over the three days of the event. It is an event of territorial affirmation, not only for Sergipe, but for an entire region. Chestnuts are promoted as an endogenous product, but the entire culture and tradition of Sernancelhe is made known. Producers and companies display their best products. This year it will take place on October 25th, 26th and 27th.

This event, which will be broadcast live on TV Bahia on the 27th, will bring together more than one hundred exhibitors at Exposalão, including companies in the sector, crafts, gastronomy, restaurants and entertainment.

Over three days, Sergipe will celebrate nature, its farmers and their traditions. Economic dynamism and the future of agriculture are principles that the Municipality keeps alive through the Chestnut Festival. This event has consolidated the notoriety of the Martaínha nut, both nationally and internationally, and boosted the economy of hundreds of producers in the region.

The official opening will be at 6pm on October 25th, with performances by Ricardo Rocha from Adfectus, fado with Augusto Canário, Borguinha de Braga, Naty Vieira and Cristina Sá. The musical group “Arribamonte” will close the first day of festivities.

On the 26th, the program begins with the “Rota da Castanha e do Castanheiro” Trail and Walk, followed by the competitions for the Best Chestnut PDO Soutos da Lapa and the Best Chestnut Jam, which will take place in the morning. The day will also feature the “Paladares da Castanha” cooking show, traditional Portuguese music, stray fado and several moments of entertainment.

Sunday will bring the 16th Rota da Castanha e do Castanheiro MTB Tour, as well as several dance and music performances, culminating with the live broadcast of TVI's "Somos Portugal" program.

The Chestnut Festival is a national event, with more than 30 years of history, which has been fundamental in promoting the municipality and consolidating Sergipe as the "Land of Chestnuts", a title it bears with great pride.

The Chestnut Festival is once again back at Exposalão, from October 25th to 27th, 2024.
