Grape Discoveries invites you on a one-day private wine tour to meet the winemakers behind some of the most exciting Douro wines today. Grape Discoveries is a boutique company providing wine experiences that are private, intimate and real. We go to less visited places to show you the heart of the Douro Valley.

One reason the Douro Valley is among the most talked about wine regions in the world today is its new reputation for creating award-winning table wines.

On this tour you’ll not only taste some outstanding Douro wines, but also get an insider perspective on the innovative movers and shakers who are creating them.

In this private tour you will:

• visit two renowned ‘quintas’ (wine properties);

• acquire fascinating knowledge about Douro wines and innovative winemakers.

After our not-too-early start and a welcome surprise, we will visit Quinta do Bomfim, the flagship property of the Symington Family Estates. This influential Scottish-English-Portuguese family had been making Port for generations, before reinventing themselves by adding top table wines to their portfolio. A winery visit and tasting is followed by a picnic lunch among the vineyards' wonderful views.

After a gentle post-lunch stroll, we'll head to one of two working wineries completely off the tourist-track. The work schedule of these wineries will determine where we will go. We will visit Quinta de Napoles, home of the Douro’s rebel vintner Dirk Niepoort, an alchemist of table wine production. Alternatively, we will visit Wine & Soul, an intimate scale winery run by a Portuguese couple with an unconventional approach to making wine and a string of awards to their credit.
